Dear Troy Parents and Guardians,
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to another exciting year at Troy! We’re thrilled to greet both new and returning students and are looking forward to working with our incredible 2025–2026 student body.
As your school counselors, our mission is to support students in their social and emotional development, enhance their communication and conflict resolution skills, and help them navigate life’s challenges. Our goal is to create a positive and supportive learning environment while preparing students for future success.
Throughout the year, we will visit classrooms to lead guidance lessons focused on age-appropriate topics. We work hard to make these sessions engaging, fun, and interactive. Students are encouraged to bring these conversations home for further discussion with you. Each semester, your child will participate in 4–6 of these lessons.
For 5th Grade, topics include:
-
Conflict Resolution
-
Managing Anxiety
-
Healthy Ways to Handle Anger
-
Building Positive Friendships
-
Adolescent Development (Puberty)
For 6th Grade, we will review these topics with added focus on:
-
Understanding Anxiety and Depression / Suicide Awareness
-
Supporting Emotional Well-being
Conflict Resolution / Peer Pressure
Please note that lesson schedules may occasionally shift due to school events or other activities.
In addition to classroom guidance, we offer small group counseling for students needing support in specific areas, such as friendship, family changes, and organization. Groups typically consist of six students and meet weekly for 8–10 weeks. More information will be shared as groups are formed throughout the year.
We also provide individual counseling support for students as needed. During the first week of school, we introduce ourselves and the counseling services available, helping students feel comfortable reaching out when they need help. Our goal is to be a consistent, approachable presence in their school experience—not just at Troy, but as they move on to Learwood and Avon Lake High School.
We welcome your questions and concerns at any time. Many parents call us simply to ask, “What should I do?”—and we’re happy to help. If we can’t provide the answer, we’ll connect you with someone who can. You can reach us by phone at Troy, and we strive to return all calls within 24 hours.
Please also visit our Counseling Blog regularly for updates on classroom topics, helpful resources, and timely information relevant to your child’s development.
We look forward to partnering with you to help your child thrive this school year!
